The reason you are bleeding is probably because you have inserted the balloon too deeply inside. Never put more than one-half, better still only 1/3 of the balloon inside, so that when you inflate it, the widest diameter is sitting at the entrance of the vagina, which is the part that needs stretching, not deep inside. Since the balloon is pear shaped and not oval, the largest diameter when inflated is at the end of the balloon. If you put it in too deep, then you stretch the middle of the vagina, which is not necessary since there are lots of vaginal folds there and there is plenty of room. When you let the balloon out, then you are causing small microtears at the entrance of the vagina, which you have not yet stretched. So you want to see 2/3 of the balloon outside, and you know it is in the right spot if it wants to pop out and you have to use strength to keep it in. If it stays inside easily, then it is too deep. You cannot tell by the amount of squeezes on the pump how much you have inflated it, only go by feeling. When you feel stingy or burny and discomfort, then don't keep inflating more. Don't worry about over-inflating as it is difficult to get more than 33 if it is in the right place. If you are having pain upon taking it out, then release air. About the plug, since you are in the ninth month it is easy to disturb the plug and some women it comes out partially after sex or a doctor or midwife's vaginal exam. It means nothing, and there is plenty of plug left. However, if the epi-no is only inserted 1/2-1/3, it would not be possible to disturb the plug. My guess is you are inserting it too deeply.
